The outer diameter specifications of steel pipes specified in the ASTMA179/ASMESA179 standard are between 1/8 inch and 3 inches (i.e. 3.2 to 76.2 mm). ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Tube is an American standard low-carbon cold-drawn seamless steel tube, specifically designed for heat exchange equipment. Its core features include high thermal conductivity, precise dimensions, good plasticity, and wide temperature tolerance.
1. Material and Composition: Low-carbon steel (C 0.06%–0.18%, Mn 0.27%–0.63%, P/S ≤0.035%). ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Tube is roughly equivalent to, but not entirely the same as, domestically produced No. 10 high-quality carbon steel tube.
2. Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength ≥325 MPa, yield strength ≥180 MPa, elongation ≥35%, hardness ≤72 HRB.
3. Thermal Conductivity: Thermal conductivity approximately 45–50 W/(m·K), about 30%–35% higher than ordinary carbon steel tubes, suitable for high-efficiency heat exchange.
4. Dimensions and Surface: Cold-drawn ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Tube, outer diameter tolerance ±0.10 mm, wall thickness deviation ≤±10%, inner wall roughness Ra ≤0.8 μm, smooth surface without oxide layer.
5. Processing Condition: ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Tube is typically delivered annealed (+A) or normalized (+N), after stress relief heat treatment at temperatures above 650℃, with a microstructure of ferrite + pearlite.
6. Temperature and Corrosion Resistance: ASTM A179 Seamless Steel Tube is suitable for temperatures from -50℃ to 450℃, with short-term up to 480℃; its corrosion resistance in acidic, alkaline, and steam environments is superior to ordinary carbon steel pipes, but not stainless steel grade.
7. Forming and Inspection: Can be cold-bent, flared, and flattened without cracking; must pass 10.5 MPa water pressure, eddy current/ultrasonic testing (detecting defects ≥0.1mm), GB/T242 flaring test and GB/T246 flattening test.
