Description

ASTM A53 Steel Pipe is a carbon steel pipe standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Its full name is “ASTM A53 – Seamless Steel Tube and Welded Steel Pipe.” It is primarily classified into two types:
1. ASTM A53 Steel Pipe Seamless (Type S): Produced through hot rolling or cold drawing, it has no welds and offers enhanced pressure resistance, making it suitable for high-pressure applications.
2. ASTM A53 Steel Pipe Welded (Type E/F): Type E is electric resistance welded (ERW) Tube, while Type F is furnace welded. These are lower-cost and primarily used for low-pressure fluid transportation.

Based on material properties, ASTM A53 Steel Pipe is divided into Grade A (tensile strength ≥ 330 MPa) and Grade B (tensile strength ≥ 415 MPa). Grade B is stronger and requires passing a carbon equivalent test, making it suitable for welding.
Size Range:
Outer diameter: 1/8 inch to 26 inches. Common wall thicknesses are indicated by Schedules 40 and 80. For example, the wall thickness of 2-inch Sch 40 steel pipe is 3.91mm.
Lengths: Typically 6 or 12 meters are available, but custom lengths are also available.

Main Applications:
Building structure support (e.g., scaffolding);
Low-pressure oil and gas pipelines;
Water supply and fire protection system pipes.

Purchasing and Construction Considerations
1. Selection Recommendations:
For high-pressure applications, seamless Grade B steel pipe is preferred.
Preheating is required during welding (Grade B carbon equivalent ≥ 0.43%).

2. Corrosion Protection:
Galvanized ASTM A53 Steel Pipe (e.g., A53 F) offers superior rust resistance, but the cost increases by approximately 20%.
