Extruded aluminum profiles are aluminum materials with different cross-sectional shapes obtained by hot melting and extrusion of aluminum rods. The production process of extruded aluminum profiles mainly includes three processes: melting and casting, extrusion, and coloring. Among them, coloring mainly includes processes such as oxidation, electrophoretic coating, fluorocarbon spraying, powder coating, and wood grain transfer. Description

Extruded aluminum profiles are aluminum materials with different cross-sectional shapes obtained by hot melting and extrusion of aluminum rods. The production process of extruded aluminum profiles mainly includes three processes: melting and casting, extrusion, and coloring. Among them, coloring mainly includes processes such as oxidation, electrophoretic coating, fluorocarbon spraying, powder coating, and wood grain transfer. Extruded aluminum profiles are aluminum materials with different cross-sectional shapes obtained by hot melting and extrusion of aluminum rods.

Aluminum alloys have low density but relatively high strength, approaching or exceeding that of high-quality steel. They have good appearance and can be processed into various profiles. They have excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance, and are widely used in industry, second only to steel in terms of usage.

The main characteristics of extruded aluminum profiles are:

(1) Low density: A significant characteristic of aluminum profiles is their low density. The density of pure aluminum is close to 2.7 g/cm³, about 1/3 that of iron or copper. The density of aluminum profiles varies depending on the alloy composition, mainly depending on the density of other alloying elements added.

(2) Strength Enhancement: Pure aluminum has low strength, but it can be strengthened to a high strength through cold working or alloying with elements such as magnesium, copper, manganese, silicon, and lithium, followed by heat treatment. Industrially used aluminum profiles typically incorporate alloying elements designed to improve their strength; common alloying elements include magnesium, silicon, copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel.

(3) Machinability: Aluminum has good plasticity and is easy to process. It can be extruded into aluminum profiles with various complex cross-sections and can be machined by turning, milling, boring, and planing. For stamping, the stamping pressure is lower than that of other metals, the die life is longer, and it can be cast using any casting method.

(4) Corrosion Resistance: Aluminum profiles readily form a dense and robust oxide protective film on their surface. This protective film is only easily destroyed under halide ion and alkaline conditions, thus aluminum has excellent resistance to atmospheric and water corrosion. (5) No low-temperature brittleness: Below 0℃, aluminum’s strength and ductility not only do not decrease with decreasing temperature, but actually increase.

(6) Good electrical and thermal conductivity: Aluminum’s electrical and thermal conductivity is second only to silver, copper, and gold; at room temperature, the volumetric conductivity of electrical aluminum can reach 62% IACS; in terms of conductivity per unit mass, its conductivity is twice that of copper; however, any alloying element will decrease aluminum’s conductivity.

(7) High reflectivity: The polished surface of aluminum reflects more than 80% of white light; the higher the purity, the higher the reflectivity; at the same time, aluminum has good reflectivity for infrared, ultraviolet, electromagnetic waves, and thermal radiation.

(8) Non-magnetic: It does not produce sparks upon impact, which is very valuable for certain special applications; it can be used as shielding material for instruments and electrical equipment, as well as production equipment for flammable and explosive materials, etc. (9) Good sound absorption: Beneficial for interior decoration, and can also be formulated into shock-absorbing alloys; this characteristic is used in the production of high-end aluminum alloy speaker cabinets, especially after texture etching, which greatly increases the internal surface area, further improving the overall sound performance.

(10) Resistance to nuclear radiation: Aluminum has a neutron absorption cross-section for high-energy neutrons similar to other metals; for neutrons in the low-energy range, its absorption cross-section is second only to metals such as beryllium, magnesium, and zirconium; and the greatest advantage of aluminum’s resistance to nuclear radiation is its rapid attenuation of induced radiation energy generated by irradiation.

(11) Aesthetic appeal: Extruded aluminum profiles have strong reflectivity and a silvery-white luster, achieving high smoothness and brightness after processing; with special pretreatment, anodizing, dyeing, or screen printing, it not only has high corrosion resistance but also a beautiful appearance; its decorative and functional uses can be further enhanced through electroplating, chemical plating, and other processing methods.
