Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil
Grain oriented silicon steel coil (also known as cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel coil) is a key soft magnetic material specifically used in the manufacture of power equipment cores. It possesses a highly oriented crystal structure and excellent electromagnetic properties.
Distinguished from Non Oriented Silicon Steel Coil, which is widely used in rotating equipment such as motors, generators, compressors, and drive motors for new energy vehicles, requiring magnetization in multiple directions, Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil is specifically designed for transformer cores (especially power transformers and distribution transformers) because its magnetic properties are optimal in a single direction, making it suitable for static magnetic fields.
Description
Characteristics of Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil:
1. High Magnetic Induction: Grain oriented silicon steel coil exhibits high magnetic induction intensity in the rolling direction (Hi-B steel can reach ≥1.88 T), contributing to reduced core volume and weight.
2. Low Iron Loss: Grain oriented silicon steel coil has extremely low unit iron loss (e.g., ≤0.60 W/kg for 20/60 grade), significantly reducing transformer no-load and load losses.
3. Strong Directionality: The grains are highly oriented along the rolling direction (<001> axis parallel to the rolling direction), resulting in optimal magnetic properties in this direction.
4. High Silicon Content: Typically 2.9%–3.5% Si, increasing resistivity and reducing eddy current losses.
5. Adding Inhibitors: Using MnS, AlN, or composite inhibitors to control secondary recrystallization, forming a sharp Goss texture.
6. Surface Coating: Applying a phosphate + magnesium silicate double-layer insulating layer generates tensile stress to refine magnetic domains, further reducing iron loss and noise.
7. Trend Towards Thinner Specifications: Mainstream thicknesses of Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil include 0.20 mm, 0.23 mm, 0.27 mm, and 0.30 mm, with ultra-thin thicknesses as low as 0.18 mm or even 0.12 mm for high-frequency applications.
Applications of Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil:
Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil is primarily used in static electromagnetic equipment, and is indispensable in the following fields:
1. Power Transformers:
– High-voltage/UHV transmission transformers (e.g., 750 kV, 1000 kV)
– Distribution transformers (110 kV and below)
– Energy-saving transformers (“Super 1” energy efficiency standard)
2. New Energy Field:
– Inverters and step-up transformers in wind power and photovoltaic power generation
3. Industrial Motors and Reactors:
– Large synchronous motors and generator cores (some high-end applications)
– Filter reactors and current-limiting reactors
4. Special Electronic Equipment:
– Pulse transformers, magnetic amplifiers, high-frequency transformers (requires ≤0.12 mm ultra-thin specifications)
5. Major Engineering Applications:
– National key projects
Grain Oriented Silicon Steel Coil is usually supplied in coil form for easy punching, shearing, and lamination into cores. – Compared to non-oriented silicon steel (used in motor rotors/stators), oriented silicon steel optimizes magnetic properties in only one direction, making it more suitable for stationary, unidirectional magnetized transformer applications.
