ASTM A588 Corten Weathering Steel Plate Specifications:
1. Standard: ASTM A588/A588M (latest version such as -24), covering plates, profiles, and bars, with a typical thickness ≤200 mm (8 inches).
2. Core Components of ASTM A588 Corten Weathering Steel Plate: Contains alloying elements such as Cu (0.25–0.40%), Cr (0.40–0.65/0.70%), Ni (≤0.50%), and P (≤0.04%), forming a dense and stable rust layer on the surface, providing 2–8 times the corrosion resistance of ordinary carbon steel plate.
3. Strength Grade: Grade A/B/C, with A588 Gr.B being the most common; yield strength ≥345 MPa and tensile strength 485–620 MPa for thickness ≤100 mm.
4. Other Names: Often classified as “Corten steel plate” (Cor-Ten type, but ASTM A588 corresponds to Cor-Ten type B, low phosphorus); no direct national standard designation, similar to Q355NH (GB/T 4171) but with incomplete equivalent composition and properties.
5. ASTM A588 Corten Weathering Steel Plate promotes self-healing of protective rust through the synergistic effect of Cu–Cr–Ni–P, suitable for dry-humid alternating atmospheric environments (such as industrial/rural climates), but not suitable for long-term immersion in water or high-salt-spray marine environments. 3. Energy and infrastructure: Transmission towers, wind turbine towers, port and dock components, and offshore platforms, resistant to salt spray and industrial atmospheric corrosion;
4. Heavy transportation and engineering machinery: Railway car carriages, special containers, mining dump trucks, crane and excavator structural components;
5. Landscape and durable structures: Weathering steel sculptures, retaining walls, walkways, etc., utilizing its stable rust layer to achieve low-maintenance artistic expression.
