Galvanized Steel Sheet
Galvanized steel sheets are carbon steel substrates coated with zinc through hot-dip galvanizing (e.g., SGCC) or electroplating (e.g., SECC). Their core characteristics include sacrificial anode corrosion protection, low cost, and good processability. However, their corrosion resistance is weaker than stainless steel, making them suitable for general corrosive environments.
Description
Galvanized steel sheets are carbon steel substrates coated with zinc through hot-dip galvanizing (e.g., SGCC) or electroplating (e.g., SECC). Their core characteristics include sacrificial anode corrosion protection, low cost, and good processability. However, their corrosion resistance is weaker than stainless steel sheet, making them suitable for general corrosive environments.
Characteristics of Galvanized Steel Sheets:
1. Strong Corrosion Resistance: The zinc coating on Galvanized steel sheets forms a dense protective film of basic zinc carbonate in the atmosphere, providing protection against scratches. Hot-dip galvanized sheets have a thicker zinc layer (typically 60–300 g/m²), while electroplated sheets have a thinner but more uniform zinc layer (10–50 g/m²).
2. Good Formability and Weldability: Galvanized steel sheets inherit the ductility of low-carbon steel substrates, allowing for stamping, bending, and seaming. Spot welding requires careful parameter control to prevent zinc vapor porosity or cracking.
3. Diverse Surface Finishes: Galvanized steel sheets can be finished with zinc spangle (hot-dip galvanized), smooth without zinc spangle, or passivated/fingerprint-resistant treatment; hot-dip galvanized layers have strong adhesion (metallurgical bonding), while electroplated layers have a smooth but thin appearance.
4. Economical and Practical: Galvanized steel sheets are less expensive than stainless steel sheets and aluminized zinc sheets, making them the preferred anti-corrosion material for large-scale applications in construction and home appliances.
Applications of Galvanized Steel Sheet:
1. Building Structures: Galvanized steel sheet is used for roofing sheet/wall panels, ventilation ducts, joists, railings, and color-coated substrates (accounting for approximately 39% of consumption);
2. Home Appliances and Electromechanical Systems: Chassis housings, air conditioner housings, distribution cabinets, mufflers (primarily electro-galvanized SECC, emphasizing appearance and forming);
3. Automotive Manufacturing: Body panels, chassis components (primarily alloyed hot-dip galvanized GA sheet, considering paint adhesion and corrosion resistance);
4. Industry and Infrastructure: Cable trays, transmission towers, highway guardrails, grain silos, containers (primarily hot-dip galvanized SGCC, heavy-duty corrosion protection);
5. Light Industry and Packaging: Galvanized iron drums, brackets, hardware (commonly using 0.4–1.2 mm thin sheets).
