Description
Carbon steel coil is hot-rolled or cold-rolled strip steel supplied in coils from carbon steel. It is mainly used in building structures, machinery manufacturing, automobile bodies, pipeline engineering, and appliance housings.
Classification and characteristics of carbon steel coil:
1. Classification by carbon content: Low-carbon steel coil (C ≤ 0.25%): good plasticity, easy to weld and form, used for automotive panels and building components; Medium-carbon steel coil (0.25% < C ≤ 0.6%): balances strength and toughness, used for machine parts after heat treatment; High-carbon steel coil (C > 0.6%): high hardness, wear-resistant, mostly used for springs and tool belts (rarely supplied directly in coils, often requiring further processing).
2. By quality grade: Ordinary carbon steel coils (S/P ≤ 0.05%/0.045%), high-quality carbon steel coils (S/P ≤ 0.035%), and premium high-quality carbon steel coils (S/P ≤ 0.03%). Lower impurities result in better toughness and homogeneity.
3. By application/grade: Carbon structural steel coils such as Q235 and Q275 (used in construction and bridges); high-quality structural steel coils such as 08, 20, and 45 (used for machined parts); tool steel coils such as T8 and T10 (rarely produced in coils, mostly flat bars or wire rods).
4. By processing state: Hot-rolled steel coils (surface oxide scale, lower dimensional accuracy, high strength, used for structural parts or pickled/cold-rolled raw materials); pickled steel coils (smoother surface after oxide scale removal, used for cold rolling or stamping); cold-rolled steel coils (high precision, good surface finish, but raw materials are mostly derived from hot-rolled carbon coils).
Applications of Carbon Steel Coil:
Carbon steel coils (including hot-rolled and cold-rolled forms) are mainly used in building structures, machinery manufacturing, automobile bodies, pipeline engineering, and appliance housings. They are differentiated by grade (e.g., Q235, A36 steel coil, SPCC steel coils) and process (hot-rolled/cold-rolled) for load-bearing, forming, or decorative applications.
1. Construction and Bridges: Hot-rolled carbon steel coils (e.g., Q235, A36) are used for load-bearing components such as steel structure beams and columns, bridge frames, and factory supports.
2. Automobile Manufacturing: Cold-rolled low-carbon steel coils (e.g., SPCC, DC04 steel coil) are used for body panels (door panels, hoods) and chassis components, relying on their good stamping properties and surface quality.
3. Machinery and Pressure Vessels: Medium and low-carbon steel coils (e.g., 20, 16Mn) are used to manufacture gears, shafts, boilers, storage tanks, and pipelines (petroleum, chemical, power).
4. Home Appliances and Hardware: Cold-rolled carbon steel coils (often galvanized/color-coated) are used for casings, brackets, cabinets, etc., requiring dimensional accuracy and formability.
5. General Structural Components: Various carbon steel coils can be processed into angle steel, channel steel, coiled pipes, fasteners, or welded structures, suitable for agricultural machinery, containers, shelves, etc.
