Description

Cold Rolled Steel Coil is a type of steel coil produced by continuous rolling at room temperature (below the recrystallization temperature) from hot-rolled pickled coils. It typically has a thickness of 0.2–4 mm, a smooth surface, and high dimensional accuracy (±3–5 μm), but high hardness and poor formability when unannealed.

Classification and characteristics of Cold Rolled Steel Coil:

1. Hard Rolled Coil (Cold Hard Coil): Only cold-rolled and unannealed, it has high hardness (HRB > 90), high strength (yield strength up to 300–500 MPa), and poor plasticity. It is only suitable for simple bending (<90°, along the rolling direction) or as a substrate for galvanized/color-coated steel. Typical grades include SPCC Cold Rolled Steel Coil and DC01 Cold Rolled Steel Coil (unannealed).

2. Ordinary cold-rolled coils (annealed state): After cold rolling, they undergo either annealing (with a can or continuous process) followed by leveling to eliminate work hardening. The yield strength is reduced to 140–280 MPa, elongation ≥28%, and deep-drawing performance is good (e.g., SPCE, DC04). They are commonly used as a base material for household appliances and automotive exterior panels.

3. Coated cold-rolled coils: Including hot-dip galvanized (GI), electro-galvanized (EG), aluminized zinc (GL, 55% Al-Zn-Si), and electro-tin (tinplate). These are coated onto annealed, cold-hardened coils, providing both corrosion resistance and formability. They are used in construction, food cans, and household appliances.

4. Electrical steel (silicon steel sheets): Silicon-containing cold-rolled coils undergo special decarburization annealing and coating treatment, resulting in low iron loss and high magnetic permeability. They are used in motor and transformer cores (non-oriented/oriented).

5. Color-coated steel coils (pre-coated steel sheets): These are made by continuously coating an organic coating (such as PE or PVDF) onto an annealed cold-rolled substrate. They are used for building roofing and decoration, offering both aesthetic appeal and weather resistance.

Applications of Cold Rolled Steel Coil:

Due to its smooth surface, precise dimensions, and excellent stamping performance, cold rolled steel coil is widely used in automotive manufacturing, appliance housings, architectural decoration, machinery parts, and food packaging—fields with high requirements for formability and appearance.

1. Automotive Industry: Cold rolled steel coil is used for body panels (such as door panels and hoods), chassis parts, and structural components (accounting for over 50% of cold rolled steel usage);

2. Home Appliance Manufacturing: Cold rolled steel coil is used for refrigerator/washing machine/air conditioner housings, inner tanks, and brackets (requiring deep drawing and painting);

3. Construction and Decoration: Cold rolled steel coil is used for roof sheet panels, wall panels, keels, and door and window profiles (often used with color coating or galvanizing);

4. Hardware and Machinery: Precision stamped parts, tool housings, motor cores, and bearing cages;

5. Packaging and Containers: Food cans (tinplate substrate), oil drums, and aerosol cans;

6. Electrical and Electronic Engineering: Some silicon steel sheets (requiring further processing), battery casings/frames (new energy field);

7. Others: Bicycle components, office equipment, and medical devices (especially cold rolled stainless steel coils).
