Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil is a composite material made by applying a surface coating (such as color coating or functional coating) to an aluminized zinc steel coil (typically 55% Al, 43.4% Zn, 1.6% Si). It combines the protective properties of the aluminized zinc layer with the decorative/functional advantages of the pre-coated film.
Features of Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil:
1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The aluminized zinc undercoat of Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil is protected by a dense oxide barrier of aluminum and cathodic electrochemical protection of zinc, resulting in corrosion resistance 2–6 times that of hot-dip galvanized steel coil (the time for red rust to appear in salt spray tests can be up to 18 times longer), making it particularly suitable for humid, industrial, or coastal environments.
2. High Heat Resistance: Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil can be used for extended periods at 315°C without discoloration or oxidation, and has a heat reflectivity >75% (approximately twice that of galvanized steel), providing significant energy-saving and heat-insulating effects.
3. Excellent processability and paintability: Pre-coated films (such as PVDF, PE, FEVE, etc.) require no on-site spraying, exhibiting strong adhesion, uniform color, and stable weather resistance; the substrate itself is easy to stamp, bend, and shear, and the coating and plating are firmly bonded.
4. Beautiful appearance and maintenance-free: The surface is silvery-white zinc spangle or has a uniform luster. Pre-coating allows for a rich variety of colors and textures (such as wood grain and stone grain), and offers stain resistance and self-cleaning properties.
5. Economical and efficient: Larger coating area per weight (due to the lower density of aluminum-zinc alloy compared to pure zinc), pre-coating reduces construction steps, and the overall lifespan can reach over 20 years, reducing total lifespan costs.
Applications of Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil:
Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil (i.e., color-coated coils with Galvalume Steel Coil as the substrate, often called PPGL steel coil or color-coated aluminum-zinc coated coils) is mainly used in the construction and light industrial sectors where high corrosion resistance, aesthetics, and construction efficiency are required. 1. Building Roofing and Walls: Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil is widely used as an exterior cladding material for industrial plants, warehouses, stadiums, commercial centers, and residential steel structures, offering excellent weather resistance, thermal insulation (high heat reflectivity), and colorfastness.
2. Building Decoration and Enclosures: Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil is used for partitions, ceilings, eaves, garage doors, sound barriers, etc. The pre-coated finish allows for immediate installation, shortening construction time.
3. Appliance and Electromechanical Housings: Used in manufacturing air conditioner outdoor unit housings, electrical cabinets, switch boxes, water heater housings, etc., leveraging its corrosion resistance and excellent coating adhesion.
4. Transportation and Agricultural Facilities: Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil is used for light truck bodies, guardrails, greenhouses, livestock sheds, etc., particularly suitable for coastal or high-humidity corrosive environments.
5. Photovoltaic Mounting Systems and Infrastructure: Some Prime Prepainted Galvalume Steel Coil is used for photovoltaic system frames or support structures (ensuring the coating is resistant to UV aging), as well as communication base stations, power distribution boxes, etc.
Pre-coating processes (roll-coating organic coatings such as polyester, fluorocarbon, or silicon-modified polyester) enhance the aesthetics and provide additional protection on aluminized zinc-plated substrates (55% Al-Zn-Si) without altering the core corrosion resistance mechanism of aluminized zinc (aluminum forms a dense oxide film). Its lifespan is typically 1.5–2 times that of bare aluminized zinc (depending on the coating type), and it avoids on-site coating contamination and unevenness issues. Note: If the substrate is “aluminized zinc-magnesium” (e.g., Zn-Al-Mg-Si), the end-face self-healing ability is stronger, but “pre-coated aluminized zinc” generally still refers to a standard 55% Al-Zn substrate with an organic coating.
