Corten Steel Plate, also known as atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel plate, Weathering Steel Plate, is a low-alloy, high-strength structural steel plate. Based on its key properties, it is categorized as high-weathering structural steel and welded structural weathering steel.

High-weathering structural steel plate, due to its superior atmospheric corrosion resistance compared to welded structural weathering steel, is primarily used for bolted, riveted, and welded structural components in vehicles, containers, buildings, towers, and other structures.

Features of Corten Steel Plate:

1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Corten Steel Plate achieves a natural, weather-resistant appearance without any additional coating, effectively protecting against atmospheric and marine corrosion.

2. High Strength: Corten Steel Plate boasts a tensile strength of up to 480 MPa, significantly higher than that of ordinary structural steel plates.

3. Reduced Maintenance Costs: Corten Steel Plate requires no frequent maintenance or installation, saving significant labor and material costs.

The primary technical advantage of Corten Steel Plate as a façade material lies in its superior corrosion resistance compared to ordinary carbon steel plate. Under natural conditions, ordinary carbon steel plates can thin by as much as 0.1 to 1mm over a five-year period due to corrosion. This thinning can be even more severe over extended periods or under harsh, man-made conditions.

Corten Steel Plate incorporates weather-resistant elements such as copper, chromium, and nickel, creating a dense, 50-100μm-thick oxide layer between the rust layer and the base metal. This layer adheres well to the base metal. This unique, dense oxide layer exhibits a stable, uniform, natural rust-red color.

Applications of Corten Steel Plate:

1. Architectural Landscape: Corten Steel Plate is widely used in facades, curtain walls, sculptures, and courtyard fences. Its naturally formed rust-red texture enhances aesthetics, making it suitable for decorative applications with long design lifespans.

2. Bridge and Infrastructure: Corten Steel Plate is used in railway bridges, highway bridges, towers, and port terminals, particularly in cold, humid, or coastal high-chlorine environments, significantly reducing life-cycle costs.

3. Industrial Manufacturing: Corten Steel Plate is used in the manufacture of containers, vehicle structural components, photovoltaic supports, oil pipelines, and large steel structures. Its atmospheric corrosion resistance is 2-8 times that of ordinary steel.
