6061 T651 Aluminum Pipe
6061 T651 aluminum pipe is an Al-Mg-Si heat-treatable aluminum alloy, manufactured through a process of solution treatment, quenching, artificial aging, and tensile (pre-stretching) stress relief (T651 temper). It possesses moderate strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and machining stability, making it suitable for high-precision structural components.
Description
6061 T651 aluminum pipe is an Al-Mg-Si heat-treatable aluminum alloy, manufactured through a process of solution treatment, quenching, artificial aging, and tensile (pre-stretching) stress relief (T651 temper). It possesses moderate strength, excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, and machining stability, making it suitable for high-precision structural components. Common forms include aluminum round tube and square aluminum tubes.
Characteristics of 6061 T651 aluminum pipe:
1. Chemical composition: Primarily composed of Mg (0.8–1.2%), Si (0.4–0.8%), and Cu (0.15–0.4%), with the remainder being Al, and trace amounts of Cr, Zn, Mn, Ti, and Fe (≤0.7%).
2. Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength ≥310 MPa, yield strength ≥276 MPa, elongation ≈12%, hardness approximately 95 HB; 6061 T651 aluminum pipe has lower internal stress than 6061 T6 aluminum pipe, making it less prone to deformation during machining and suitable for precision turning and milling.
3. Processing Properties: Excellent weldability (suitable for TIG/MIG), can be anodized to become anodized aluminum tubes, with a smooth and easily polished surface, and moderate machinability (cold-worked state is better than annealed state).
4. Corrosion Resistance: No significant tendency for stress corrosion cracking; good corrosion resistance in atmospheric, freshwater, and most industrial environments, superior to 2xxx/7xxx series but slightly lower than 5xxx series.
5. Condition Description: T651 = T6 (solution treatment + aging) + 1–5% axial tensile straightening, used for bars/tubes to eliminate residual stress and improve machining accuracy; compared to 6061 T6 Aluminum Pipe, it is less prone to bending or twisting during subsequent machining.
Note: The specific properties of aluminum pipe tubes are affected by wall thickness, forming process (extrusion/drawing), and heat treatment uniformity. Material certificates (such as AMS-QQ-A-250/11 or GB/T 3190) should be verified during procurement.
Applications of 6061 T651 Aluminum Pipe:
6061 T651 Aluminum Pipe is mainly used for structural components requiring medium strength, good weldability, corrosion resistance, and precision machining stability. It is commonly found in aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, machinery, and electronics industries.
1. Aerospace: 6061 T651 Aluminum Pipe is used for aircraft mounting systems, brackets, oil pipes, and rocket components (because the T651 condition involves tensile stress relief, it is less prone to deformation during machining). 2. Automotive and Rail Transportation: Lightweight structural components, brake pistons, chassis connectors, radiator piping.
3. Marine Engineering: 6061 T651 aluminum pipe for hull fittings, valves, and hardware (resistant to seawater corrosion).
4. Precision Machinery and Automation: Cylinder tubing, hydraulic guide rods, fixtures, sensor housings (high dimensional stability suitable for CNC machining).
5. Electronics and Instrumentation: 6061 T651 aluminum pipe for heat sinks, shielding shells, and precision guide rails (combining thermal conductivity, anodizing capability, and electromagnetic shielding).
6. Construction and Bridges: Load-bearing components, railings, trusses (structural applications requiring weather resistance and weldability).
