Description
Steel wire is a wide range of metal materials, is one of the four major varieties of steel plates, steel tubes, profile steel and steel wires, and is used in many industrial fields and professional fields.
Classification of Steel Wire:
According to the final heat treatment method, it is divided into: annealed steel wire; normalized steel wire; quenched and tempered steel wire; cable quality treated steel wire; solution treated steel wire.
According to the processing method, it is divided into: cold drawn steel wire; cold drawn steel wire; cold rolled steel wire; hot drawn steel wire; straight steel wire; silver bright steel wire; polished steel wire; polished steel wire.
According to chemical composition: low carbon steel wire; medium carbon steel wire; high carbon steel wire; low alloy steel wire; medium alloy steel wire; high alloy steel wire; stainless steel wire; spring steel wire; special performance alloy wire.
According to the surface condition, it is divided into: smooth steel wire; bright heat-treated steel wire; pickled steel wire; black steel wire; coated steel wire; galvanized steel wire.
Applications of Steel Wire:
Steel wire has a wide range of applications, mainly categorized by type and use: structural support, mechanical parts, transmission and lifting, protection and netting, electrical and electronic products, special industrial products, and daily necessities.
1. Rope Making and Lifting: Steel wire ropes are used in elevators, mine hoists, bridge suspension cables (such as cable-stayed bridges), port hoisting, aerial ropeways, and ship mooring, requiring high tensile strength and fatigue resistance.
2. Spring Manufacturing: Spring steel wire (piano wire, oil-quenched spring steel wire) is used in automotive suspensions, engine valves, shock absorbers, watches, tools, and medical devices.
3. Construction and Reinforcement: Prestressed steel wire and steel strand are used in bridges, railway sleepers, and high-rise building concrete structures; welded wire mesh, steel reinforcement cages, and steel nails are used in concrete reinforcement and lightweight structures.
4. Industry and Machinery: Cold-forged steel wire is used to make rivets and bolts; tool steel wire is used for shoe buckles, scissors, and clamps; bearing steel wire is used in precision bearings; spokes are used in bicycles and wheel hubs.
5. Electrical Engineering and Communications: Electrical steel wire (including galvanized and aluminum-clad wires) is used in overhead transmission lines (steel-cored aluminum stranded wire), grounding wires, and electromagnetic cores.
6. Protection and Netting: Metal mesh (barbed wire, fence mesh, sieve mesh), aquaculture fencing, cotton baling straps, barbed wire; stainless steel wire is used in corrosion-resistant environments (chemical, marine).
7. Daily Necessities and Light Industry: Nail making, packaging and binding, sewing needles, loom heddles, cleaning balls, musical instrument strings (some), toy frames.
8. Special Applications: Stainless steel wire is used in surgical implants (bone nails, stents); high-temperature/corrosion-resistant alloy wire is used in heating elements and turbine blades; steel wire in carbon fiber composite cores is used in high-strength power transmission conductors.
9. Resistance and Heating: Resistance alloy wire (such as nickel-chromium, iron-chromium-aluminum) is used in electric furnace wires, electric heaters, and temperature control elements.
Different steel grades (carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel) and processes (cold drawing, annealing, galvanizing, coating) further expand their applicability in corrosive, high-temperature, high-load, or precision environments.
