Description

Spring steel wire is a type of steel wire used to make springs or wire forms. Depending on the spring’s intended use, various types of spring wire are used, including mattress springs (often referred to as mattress wire), shock absorber springs, suspension springs, engine valves, and camera shutters. While there’s no standardized classification, these wires have varying quality requirements. Spring steel wire can also be categorized by manufacturing process, including raw spring wire (not lead-bath quenched before drawing), lead-quenched spring wire, galvanized spring wire, and oil-quenched spring wire.

Spring steel wire strength varies depending on the type, standard, and specification, with tensile strength grades ranging from 1000 to 3000 MPa. Round spring wire has a diameter ranging from 0.08 to 20 mm. The cross-section of spring steel wire is generally round, but can also be rectangular, square, or oval. Finished steel wire is typically delivered in coils, but can also be delivered as straight strips.

Springs used in different environments have specific requirements for the wire. For example, springs operating in corrosive media require excellent corrosion resistance; springs used in precision instruments require long-term stability and sensitivity; and springs used in high-temperature environments require sufficient elastic limit and creep resistance.

Uses of Spring Steel Wire

1. Spring Manufacturing
Spring steel wire is a common material used in spring manufacturing. It can be made into a variety of spring types, such as torsion springs, compression springs, and tension springs, and is widely used in machinery, automobiles, rail transportation, and other fields.

2. Electrical Component Manufacturing
Spring steel wire has excellent elasticity, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, making it widely used in electrical component manufacturing, such as switches and sockets.

3. Wire Rope Manufacturing
Wire rope is made of multiple twisted steel wires, and spring steel wire can be used as a component of the wire rope. Its wear and corrosion resistance extend the life of the wire rope.

4. Applications in Vehicle Manufacturing
Spring steel wire can also be used to manufacture vehicle chassis, suspension, and steering system components, such as springs and torsion bars in braking and suspension systems.

5. Applications in Construction and Furniture
Spring steel wire can also be used in construction and furniture, such as door hinges, locks, and door and window fittings.
