The alloy coating of zinc-aluminum-magnesium steel coils is a dense ternary eutectic structure formed by high-temperature solidification of zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al), and magnesium (Mg). , forming a dense super coating on the surface of the steel plate, which effectively prevents corrosion and can adapt to various harsh environments. Features of Zn-Alu-Mg Steel Coil:
1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: 10–20 times stronger corrosion resistance than ordinary hot-dip galvanized steel coil, especially outstanding in harsh environments such as those containing chlorine, salt spray, and acid rain. Some grades showed no red rust after 3300 hours of neutral salt spray testing.
2. Self-Healing Capability of Cut Edges: The Mg and Al in the coating of Zn-Alu-Mg Steel Coil form a dense basic zinc chloride/magnesium hydroxide protective film during corrosion, covering defects such as cut surfaces and scratches, and inhibiting further oxidation of the substrate.
3. High Hardness and Wear Resistance: The coating has a Vickers hardness of HV140–190 (compared to approximately HV70–80 for ordinary galvanized steel coil), a low coefficient of friction, and less wear on stamped edges, reducing burr defects.
4. Excellent Processing Performance: Zn-Alu-Mg Steel Coil possesses good stamping, bending (e.g., the coating does not peel off when bent at 180°), and weldability (Mg reduces laser welding spatter), making it suitable for complex formed parts.
5. Lightweight and Economical: For the same lifespan, the coating thickness of Zn-Alu-Mg Steel Coil can be thinner than galvanized steel (e.g., 275g/m² Zn-Al-Mg ≈ 800g/m² galvanized steel), achieving weight reduction and cost reduction; although the unit price is higher than galvanized steel, the total life-cycle cost is lower.
6. Environmental Compliance: Free from hexavalent chromium and other harmful substances, it complies with RoHS and other environmental standards, and the production process generates less pollution than traditional galvanizing.
Applications of Zn-Alu-Mg Steel Coil:
Zn-Alu-Mg steel coils are mainly used in fields requiring strong corrosion and high durability, covering construction, photovoltaics, agriculture, power, transportation, home appliances, and industrial equipment.
1. Building Structures: Roofing sheet, walls, joists, cable trays, cooling towers, roller shutters, modular houses (especially suitable for high-humidity, high-salt environments such as coastal areas and industrial zones).
2. Photovoltaic Power Generation: Photovoltaic brackets (C-type/Z-type steel, thickness typically 1.5–5.0mm), becoming a mainstream alternative material due to excellent self-healing cuts and weather resistance.
3. Agricultural Facilities: Greenhouses, livestock sheds (pigs/chicken houses), grain silos and feeding equipment, resistant to ammonia and moisture corrosion.
4. Power and Communications: Transmission and distribution switchgear, prefabricated substation enclosures, communication tower components, ensuring long-term outdoor reliability.
5. Transportation: Highway guardrails, railway sleeper pads, automobile mufflers/fuel tanks/cargo boxes (some vehicle models).
6. Home Appliances and Manufacturing: Air conditioner/refrigerator back panels, industrial ovens, electrical cabinets (Zhonglv has already achieved mass production applications in the home appliance industry).

Zn-Alu-Mg steel coil coating contains Al and Mg (typically Zn-3%Al-3%Mg), possessing characteristics such as self-healing cuts, strong salt spray resistance (10–20 times that of ordinary galvanizing), and good formability and weldability. It is gradually replacing hot-dip galvanized steel sheet and aluminized zinc plates.
