Stainless Steel Plate
Stainless steel plates are classified into hot-rolled and cold-rolled stainless steel plates according to their manufacturing process. Their surfaces can be processed into various finishes such as mirror and brushed, and they are widely used in kitchenware, construction, chemical, and medical equipment.
Commonly used stainless steel plates include grades such as 304, 316, 2205 and 201. Among them, 304 is the most widely used due to its excellent overall performance, 316 has stronger corrosion resistance and is suitable for marine environments, and 201 is mainly used in low-corrosion environments.
Description
Stainless steel plates are classified into hot-rolled stainless steel plate and cold-rolled stainless steel sheets according to their manufacturing process. Their surfaces can be processed into various finishes such as mirror and brushed, and they are widely used in kitchenware, construction, chemical, and medical equipment.
Commonly used stainless steel plates include grades such as 304, 316, and 201. Among them, 304 is the most widely used due to its excellent overall performance, 316 has stronger corrosion resistance and is suitable for marine environments, and 201 is mainly used in low-corrosion environments.
Classification of Stainless Steel Plates:
The manufacturing process and surface treatment of stainless steel plates directly affect their appearance and mechanical properties:
1. By Manufacturing Process
Cold-rolled Stainless Steel Plate: Thickness is typically 0.3-6mm, with a smooth, bright or silvery-white surface, high hardness, suitable for machining and appliance housings.
Hot-rolled Stainless Steel Plate: Thickness is generally 3-200mm, with a darker, grayish-white, and rougher surface, good toughness and ductility, suitable for kitchenware and structural components.
2. Classification by Surface Treatment
Common Textures: Including mirror finish (mirror-like shine), brushed finish (grinding to create texture), sandblasted finish (matte granular texture), etched finish (chemical corrosion pattern), and embossed finish, etc.
Decorative Applications: Colored stainless steel sheets have long-lasting color and are resistant to salt spray corrosion, making them suitable for elevator cars, building exteriors, and signage decoration.
Characteristics and Applications of Different Grades of Stainless Steel Plate:
Characteristics: Commonly known as “18/8 stainless steel,” it contains more than 18% chromium and more than 8% nickel, possessing good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and processing performance.
Applications: Widely used in household tableware, kitchenware, architectural decoration, chemical equipment, and medical devices. It is a nationally recognized food-grade material.
Identification: National standard grade is 06Cr19Ni10 (old grade 0Cr18Ni9), American standard is 304, Japanese standard is SUS304.
2. 316 Stainless Steel Plate
Features: Based on 304, the addition of molybdenum (Mo) significantly improves its resistance to chloride corrosion and enhances its high-temperature performance.
Applications: Suitable for marine environments, chemical processing, pharmaceutical equipment, and coastal facilities; commonly known as “18/10 stainless steel”.
Caution: Although highly corrosion-resistant, caution is still required in certain high-temperature environments such as concentrated sulfuric acid.
3. 201 Stainless Steel Plate
Features: Lower nickel content, resulting in less corrosion resistance than 304, but with high ductility and lower cost.
Applications: Primarily used in inland cities for decorative materials and products with less stringent corrosion resistance requirements.
4. 310S Stainless Steel Plate
Features: High chromium and nickel content, strong oxidation resistance, and a continuous operating temperature up to 1150℃.
Applications: Mainly used in industrial furnace components, automotive exhaust purification devices, and high-temperature boiler components.
Features: This is an ultra-low carbon duplex stainless steel, composed of approximately 50% ferrite and 50% austenite. Its core characteristics are high strength, excellent corrosion resistance (especially resistance to chloride stress corrosion), and good weldability.
Applications: Widely used in harsh corrosive and high-load environments such as chemical pressure vessels, offshore platforms, oil and gas pipelines, seawater desalination, and paper bleaching equipment.
