Description

Stainless steel square bars are solid, rectangular stainless steel bars with a square cross-section, made from stainless steel through processes such as hot rolling, forging, or cold drawing. Side lengths typically range from a few millimeters to 120 millimeters (e.g., 3×3mm to 120×120mm), and lengths can be customized.

Stainless steel square bars are widely used in industries such as machinery manufacturing (shafts, pins, valve parts), petrochemicals, medical devices, building structures, and food processing, meeting the requirements for corrosion resistance and structural strength in various scenarios.

Classification of Stainless Steel Square Bars:

Classification by Metallographic Structure: This is the most fundamental classification method, determining the corrosion resistance, strength, and magnetism of the stainless steel square bar.

1. Austenitic Stainless Steel: The most common type, non-magnetic or weakly magnetic, with good corrosion resistance. Representative grades: 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321 (300 series); and 201 and 202 (chromium-nickel-manganese series) of the 200 series.

2. Martensitic Stainless Steel: Magnetic, can be strengthened by heat treatment, high hardness but slightly weaker corrosion resistance. Representative grades: 410, 420, 440C.

3. Ferritic Stainless Steel: Magnetic, resistant to chloride stress corrosion, but cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. Representative grades: 430, 409.

4. Duplex Stainless Steel: Possesses characteristics of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steel, high strength and resistant to chloride ion corrosion. Representative grades: 2205, 2507.

5. Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel: Achieved through precipitation hardening treatment to obtain high strength. Representative grade: 17-4PH (600 series).

Classification by Manufacturing Process: The manufacturing process directly affects dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and internal stress.

1. Hot-rolled Stainless Steel Square Bar: Suitable for large sizes (usually side length > 40mm), with an oxide scale (black scale) on the surface, larger tolerances, low cost, suitable for rough machining.

2. Forged Stainless Steel Square Bar: Used for applications requiring large diameters or high strength. It has a dense internal structure, excellent mechanical properties, and a surface that is typically black or roughly polished.

3. Cold-drawn (cold-rolled) Stainless Steel Square Bar: Suitable for small to medium sizes (typically side length ≤ 100mm), with high dimensional accuracy (up to H9/H11), a bright surface, and can be used without extensive machining.

Classification by Surface Condition

1. Black Stainless Steel Square Bar: The original surface after hot rolling or forging, with oxide scale. It is less expensive and requires subsequent grinding or machining.

2. Bright Stainless Steel Square Bar: Treated by cold drawing, fine grinding, or polishing, with a bright silver surface and no oxide scale. It has high precision and can be used directly for precision parts.

3. Free-machining Bar: Specifically forged with elements such as sulfur and lead (e.g., 303, 304F, 316F) to improve machinability. It is specifically designed for automatic lathe machining.

Applications of Stainless Steel Square Bars:

1. Mechanical Manufacturing and Parts Machining: Stainless steel square bars are used to manufacture shafts, pins, gears, bolts, nuts, and various connecting parts. In precision machining, they are often used as turning materials to produce valve parts (such as ball valves and needle valves), couplings, and instrument accessories.

2. Building Structures and Decoration: Stainless steel square bars provide structural stability as building frames and supporting beams. Due to their aesthetic appeal and weather resistance, they are widely used in the manufacture of railings, handrails, door and window frames, and high-end decorative moldings.
