430 Stainless Steel Sheets
430 stainless steel sheets is a common product among 430 stainless steel. SUS430 stainless steel is the Japanese standard name for 430 stainless steel. It is a general-purpose steel with good corrosion resistance. It is a ferritic stainless steel with better thermal conductivity than austenite, smaller thermal expansion coefficient than austenite, heat fatigue resistance, addition of stabilizing element titanium, and good mechanical properties of the weld.Chinese standard: 1Cr17, International standard: X6CR17, American standard: S43000, British standard: 430Si5
Description
430 Stainless Steel Sheets (Chinese Standard 1Cr17 / American Standard S43000 / Japanese Standard SUS430) are ferritic stainless steel sheet with chromium (16.00%–18.00%) as the main alloying element, containing little or no nickel (≤0.60%). They are characterized by low cost, oxidation resistance, and good thermal conductivity, but their corrosion resistance and weldability are weaker than austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 stainless steel sheet and 316L stainless steel sheets).
Chemical Composition of 430 Stainless Steel Sheets:
Carbon (≤0.12%), Silicon (≤0.75%), Manganese (≤1.00%), Phosphorus (≤0.040%), Sulfur (≤0.030%), Chromium (16.00%–18.00%), and some grades contain molybdenum (2.00%–3.00%) or stabilizing elements titanium/niobium (such as 430LX).
Physical properties of 430 Stainless Steel Sheets:
1. Density: Approximately 7.75 g/cm³, melting point: 1427℃, thermal conductivity: approximately 25 W/(m·K) (approximately 1.5 times that of 304 stainless steel), low coefficient of thermal expansion (approximately 10.5 × 10⁻⁶/℃), and magnetic.
2. Mechanical properties: 430 Stainless Steel Sheets have a tensile strength ≥ 450 MPa, yield strength ≥ 205 MPa, elongation ≥ 22%, and hardness ≤ HRB 88.
3. Corrosion resistance: 430 Stainless Steel Sheets perform well in atmospheric, fresh water, and weak acid/alkali (such as nitric acid) environments, but are not resistant to chloride pitting corrosion. Prolonged exposure to 500–800℃ may lead to embrittlement due to the precipitation of brittle phases. Welding is prone to intergranular corrosion, requiring the use of stabilizing grades (such as 430LX) or controlled processes.
4. Machinability: Good formability (cold bending, stamping), moderate machinability (free-machining type 430F is available), poor weldability (thick sections are prone to cracking; thin sheets or preheating/post-heat treatment are recommended).
5. Surface Finish: 430 Stainless Steel Sheets commonly come in 2B (matte), BA (bright annealed mirror finish), No.4 (brushed), and HL (hairline finish), suitable for decorative or functional parts.
Applications of 430 Stainless Steel Sheets:
1. Home Appliances and Kitchenware: Microwave oven interiors, refrigerator panels, dishwasher doors, range hoods, cookware (especially BA surface finishes);
2. Architectural Decoration: 430 Stainless Steel Sheets are used in indoor elevator cars, handrails, door frames, and curtain walls (often combined with PVD coating for a gold-toned finish, at a lower cost than 316L and 304 stainless steel sheets);
3. Automotive Parts: Exhaust system mufflers, tailpipes, and decorative strips (resistant to oxidation below 800℃, excellent thermal fatigue performance);
4. Industry and Energy: Fuel burners, chemical storage tank linings (weakly corrosive environments below 150℃), solar panel brackets, and 5G base station heat sinks;
5. Food and Daily Necessities: 430 Stainless Steel Sheets are used for tableware (forks and spoons, not knives), conveyor belts, and work surfaces (must meet Ra≤0.2μm hygiene requirements), but long-term storage of electrolytes such as salt and vinegar is not recommended.
